Phase 04
Pack With Purpose
International travel does not require packing your entire house.
What to bring, what never leaves your carry on, and the check you run three days before you leave.
The six categories
Documents. Passport, visa or authorization, health documentation, insurance details, flight confirmations and itinerary. Physical copies, digital copies, and a set left with someone at home.
Carry on essentials. Ask one question: if my suitcase did not arrive until tomorrow, could I comfortably get through tonight? Medication, documents, chargers, a change of clothes, and anything you could not easily replace.
Clothing. Pack for the actual forecast, not the reputation of the destination. Broken in walking shoes, never new ones. A modesty layer for religious and community sites. Build around a few coordinating colors so everything pairs with everything.
Medication. Original labeled containers, more than the exact number of days you need, split between two bags where possible, and a written list using generic names. Never only in checked luggage.
Technology. The right plug adapter, more than one charging cable, and a power bank. Power banks travel in your carry on. An adapter changes the shape of the plug. A converter changes the voltage. They are not the same thing.
Comfort. A layer for the plane, a refillable water bottle, snacks, and something to sleep in on a long flight.
The standing rule
A compact umbrella and a light layer. Not in the hotel room, not in the suitcase, on you. Check the forecast every morning and carry both regardless of what it says.
The 72 hour departure check
Three days before you leave
Prepare your body, not just your bag
You cannot make up sleep, hydration or nutrition on the airplane. You can only bring what you built beforehand. In the weeks before you leave, protect your rest, build the hydration habit, eat in a way that keeps your energy steady, and walk more than you currently do.
